Albury
The regional centre of Albury lies on the northern side of the Murray River. Lying just between Melbourne
and Sydney, it is a convenient and popular stopover when traveling between the two cities. Its twin city in Victoria, separated by the Murray is Wodonga. Things to See and Do
The Cumberoona paddle steamer provides one-hour tours on Sundays along the Murray River during the summer months. The boat is actually a replica of the now-capsized original which lies at the bottom of the Darling River. Other available tours include canoe trips down the Murray River and tours to the Rutherglen wineries on weekends. Albury serves as a good point of access to various tourist attractions nearby including the Riverina, the wineries of Rutherglen, the historic goldfields towns of Beechworth and Yackandandah, the Hume Weir, the Snowy Mountains and the Victorian high country. Other attractions which are local to Albury itself are the Botanic Gardens at the northern end of Wodonga Place, the Nail Can Hill Walking Track on the western side of town as well as the Regional Museum and Art Centre.
Getting to Albury
Brindabella and Rex airlines have flights to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne from the Albury airport. Various long-distance buses run along the Hume Highway and stop at the train station. Express trains running between Sydney and Melbourne also stop here.
