Cessnock
Cessnock lies on the southeastern edge of the Lower Hunter wineries of New South Wales and serves as
a gateway city and service centre to the renowned Hunter Valley region as well as Pokolbin Village. The town serves as a popular base for visitors to the Hunter Valley region due to its relatively lower prices when compared to other towns and localities in the valley. Things to See and Do
Various operators in Cessnock and Pokolbin will organise tours to the Hunter Valley wineries and vineyards which include pick ups from your place of accommodation anywhere in Cessnock, Pokolbin, Maitland, Newcastle or Sydney. Besides the various wineries in Hunter Valley, local places of interest in Cessnock itself include Rusa Park Zoo, the arts and cultural centre of Marthaville as well as scenic lookouts at Bimbadeen and Mount Bright. Southeast of Cessnock is the rugged but beautiful Watagan Mountains where visitors can go for bushwalks or have a relaxing picnic. The Richmond Main Mining museum pays tribute to the town's rich history and roots in mining which have since been superseded by the booming wine and tourism industry.
