Pokolbin
Pokolbin village lies at the centre of the Lower Hunter and is surrounded by picturesque wineries and
their accompanying accommodation, restaurants, galleries, nurseries, boutique establishments and gift shops. The Lower Hunter wineries are a paradise for wine lovers who also get to immerse themselves in the region's stunning scenery. The valley's charm and atmosphere make driving or riding around the area a truly breathtaking experience. Things to See and Do
Various tour operators will pick you up from your Pokolbin accommodation for a tour of the various vineyards and wineries. Some will even pick you up from your hotel in Sydney or Newcastle. Other available Pokolbin tours include rainforest tours, bicycle and walking tours as well as wine and cheese tasting tours. Pokolbin village itself, which is also commonly known as the Hunter Valley Gardens, lies at the centre and serves as a base for which to stock up on any necessities before heading out. You can also enjoy the beautiful themed gardens, play a round of mini golf or have a barbecue here. Around the area are wineries, wineries and yet more wineries. With over 140 wineries to choose from, it may be a good idea to decide what you want to achieve before setting out on your tour of the valley. Other non-wine related activities available in the valley include hot-air ballooning and horse-drawn carriage rides.
Tourist Information
The Hunter Valley Wine Country Tourism Centre is located on Main Rd just north of Cessnock where you can book Pokolbin accommodation and tours. More important, however, is the Hunter Valley Wine Country Visitor Guide booklet which you should pick up. It provides information on the areas main attractions and wineries as well as a map with directions on how to get to each of them.
