The Cairns Regional Gallery boasts a mixture of history and modern fine art in various visual forms with the building itself being a masterpiece of refurbished history. Guests can visit to simply view the diverse art, or book themselves for one of the hands-on workshops. Guided tours, lectures, art demonstrations and floor-talks are also available to provide a greater insight into the amazing array of craft here. New exhibitions are featured every four to eight weeks within four allocated areas with the focus being on collections of both historic and contemporary art from Australian and international artists. Sculptures, paintings, photographic pieces and assembled art are displayed here while works from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists also feature strongly, not to be missed. The Cairns Regional Gallery celebrated 10 years of documenting and presenting history in 2005 with the fascinating establishment being the only visual arts museum in Far North Queensland. In addition, a chic café lies within the gallery while close by is The Gallery Shop with its array of art pieces on display and for sale including glassware, limited edition prints, jewellery, books and fashion accessories that reflect the creative minds of local designers and artists.
