The Gold Coast Arts Centre in Surfers Paradise lies by the serene Nerang River, surrounded by picturesque parks and gardens. Here visitors can take a break from the constant partying in Surfers to indulge in some more refined and cultured entertainment. A showroom and large 1200-seat theatre here feature a range of regular live stage performances from classical and jazz musicals to orchestras, cabaret, comedy and dance. Two cinemas in the gallery featuring the latest in audio and visual technology screen films daily, mostly with an artistic flavour. Adjacent to the Arts Centre is the Gold Coast City Arts Gallery. Lining the Sculpture Walk by the river adjacent to the gallery are several artworks while inside, exhibitions showcasing the work of local, national and international artists are on display. The Arts Centre provides stage sets, props and costumes for hire to the public while the function rooms and surrounding landscaped grounds and parklands, complete with a chapel, are popular for weddings and receptions. Also in the arts centre is unique gift shop selling various artistic and theatrical pieces as well as a relaxing cafe for visitors to grab a bite or drink.
