The main nightclub and bar strip at Surfers Paradise runs along Orchid Avenue, located just off Cavill Avenue Mall, one block from the Esplanade. Most of the action takes place on nights from Wednesday to Saturday. Many of the clubs offer free passes and vouchers to the range of backpacker hostels located around Surfers Paradise. These generally involve various deals and discounts on entry and drinks. Alternatively, getting to your venue early, before 10:30pm, will allow you to escape the long queues or perhaps even avoid the cover charge. Even as early as 9:00pm, partygoers can start to get warmed up at one of the outdoor alfresco cafes and bars. The dress code at the nightclubs are smart-casual so make sure you get out of your beachwear before a big night out. While venues change hands on a regular basis, some of the more popular places at Orchid Avenue include electronic dance, house and R&B; music at Cocktails and Dreams and Fever Niteclub as well as live bands at The Party and The Shack.
