Torquay
The rapidly expanding Torquay is a seaside holiday resort located just south of Geelong. With many
businesses and manufacturers of surfing gear making Torquay their base, the town has become known as the surf capital of Australia. Things to See and Do
Torquay's main attraction are its stunning range of beaches which cater for everyone from children to world-champion surfers. They include the family-oriented Fisherman's Beach, the relaxing Front Beach with its shady pines and sloping lawns as well as the edgy Back Beach. Various operators around the area provide surfing lessons and surfing equipment for hire. There's even a surfing museum behind the Surf City Plaza which pays homage to the various surfing champions. Other places and activities of interest not related to surfing include the Bellbrae Carriages museum, horseriding, berry farms, Tiger Moth World and Adventure Park as well as the various wineries close to the region.
Getting to Torquay
Torquay is located about 95km southwest of Melbourne. To travel by car, take the Surf Coast Highway. Rail services are scheduled daily from Melbourne to Geelong while local bus services are available from Geelong. Buses arrive and depart from the corner of Pearl and Boston Sts, behind the Gilbert St shopping centre.
