Coffs Harbour
Coffs Harbour began life in the late 19th century as a banana plantation. These days, tourism and travel
has taken over as the main industry with the quirky town proving to be a popular holiday destination. Things to See and Do
Whale sightings are common between June and late November while dolphins can usually be found at any time during the year. Several Coffs Harbour tours are available which can include snorkelling in the marine park, whale-watching, national park tours and day-trips along the Nymboida River rapids. There are several beaches in Coffs Harbour with the partially nudist Diggers Beach up north being the most recommended. Others include Park, Jetty, Moonee and Emerald Beach. The Big Banana structure on the Pacific Highway and lays claim to being the most photographed object in Australia. Available activities in the park include a range of snow sports such as ice skating, ice hockey and tobogganing. Other attractions in Coffs Harbour are the bizarre Dutch village-inspired Clog Barn, the Pet Porpoise Pool with sea animals, zoo, botanic gardens, cartoon gallery and Muttonbird Island. Activities for visitors in Coffs Harbour include horse-riding, kayaking, jet-skiing, skydiving, surfing (including lessons if required) at Diggers Beach and diving in the Solitary Islands Marine Park.
Getting to Coffs Harbour
Coffs Harbour is about a six and a half hour drive from Sydney and approximately five hours from Brisbane along the Pacific Highway. Regular flights are scheduled from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth while buses and trains also operate regularly from the various centres between Sydney and Brisbane.
