Lindeman Island is the most southerly island of the Whitsunday Islands group and consists mainly of national park. The island rewards its visitors with plenty of gorgeous secluded bays as well as some 20km of impressive walking tracks. A brochure by the Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage can be obtained on the island with details of the available walks. Trails on the island take bushwalkers through the beautiful Butterfly Valley and up Mt Oldfield whose peak stands 210m above sea level and offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding islands including Hamilton Island and Pentecost Island. There are a few beaches here including the popular Gap Beach where visitors can go snorkelling or oystering. If you're lucky, you may even be able to catch views of migratory humpback whales and dolphins from the shore as they pass by. The island's main resort is the family-oriented and award-winning Club Med Lindeman Island where guests can indulge in a range of sports and activities. A launch at the resort provides transfers to and from the airport at Hamilton Island. The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) also runs a camping ground at the island. Contact the QPWS Whitsunday Information Centre at Airlie Beach for more information.
