One of the Gold Coast's major attractions, Sea World was originally established in 1951 as Ski Gardens along the Nerang River. Today, the theme park now lies on the Southport Spit at Sea World Drive in Main Beach. The marine park features a range of animal exhibits, thrilling rides and shows with a focus on entertainment while also contributing to Australian marine research, rescue and education. An impressive variety of animals are on display here most notably at the large exhibits of Shark Bay and Polar Bear Shores as well as smaller exhibits featuring penguins, dugongs and pelicans. Guests can also take part in Animal Adventures to interact personally with animals such as seals and dolphins while various entertainment shows highlight the special talents of these trained mammals. Rides at the park include the triple loop Corkscrew Rollercoaster, the Bermuda Triangle with its array of dazzling special effects and lights, a carousel, monorail and other adrenaline-charged rides through air and water. Also available are scenic tours on helicopters over various destinations on the Gold Coast including Surfers Paradise, Burleigh Heads, Currumbin Valley and the Tweed Coast.
