The Whitsunday Coast Airport is located just south of the town of Proserpine and is the closest mainland airport to Airlie Beach and the surrounding areas including the Whitsunday Islands. The airport services regular flights by Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Blue including direct flights from Brisbane, Cairns, Sydney and Melbourne as well as various domestic and international connections via those city centres. To get to your destination of choice, courtesy coaches can be arranged via your place of accommodation while taxis and car rental companies are also readily available at the airport. Alternatively, just catch the local Whitsunday Transit bus which travels regularly between Proserpine, Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour. If you're planning on travelling to the Whitsunday Islands, catch a ferry by Fantasea Cruises at Shute Harbour or an equivalent boat at Abel Point Marina. The smaller Whitsunday Airport also has a range of light aircraft that travel regularly to the various islands.
